Deer Ridge Prison Overview

Deer Ridge Correctional Institution, often shortened to DRCI, is operated by the Oregon Department of Corrections. It is a state prison, not a Jefferson County jail. A person newly arrested by a local police agency in Madras usually starts with the Jefferson County Adult Correctional Facility if custody is required. Sheriff Jason Pollock's Jefferson County Sheriff's Office runs the county jail, while ODOC runs Deer Ridge. A person at Deer Ridge has already moved into the state corrections system as an Oregon adult in custody.

ODOC lists Deer Ridge among its Oregon prison locations and gives the Madras address for the institution. The ODOC issue brief describes Deer Ridge as Oregon's newest prison and says it is about four miles east of Madras in central Oregon. Deer Ridge Visiting Hours

Deer Ridge Mail Money

Deer Ridge Prison Intake

Deer Ridge intake is a state prison placement process, not street-arrest booking. After a Jefferson County arrest, a person may first be booked into the county jail. Deer Ridge Prison Programs

The ODOC issue brief lists Deer Ridge programs and services that are specific to prison custody. Programs include welding, Limited Maintenance Electrician Apprenticeship, education, mental-health treatment, cognitive programs, AIC work crew, laundry, call center work, and Oregon Corrections Enterprises industries. These programs differ from the local county jail programs at Cherry Lane because Deer Ridge is built for sentenced custody and longer state placement.

Deer Ridge is also tied to Oregon DOC administrative rules for visiting, mail, facility access, health and mental-health services, and death notification or documentation.
